WeatherBug Home and
Honeywell Enable Smart Thermostat Users To See How Weather
Impacts Their Energy Use.
Linking weather big data with connected thermostats helps unlock
greater energy efficiency and comfort.
Earth
Networks’ WeatherBug Home, a unique service that leverages the
Internet of Things (IoT) to integrate its big weather data with
connected home devices, today announced a joint initiative with
Honeywell to show smart thermostat customers how weather affects
their energy use in real-time. These unique energy insights offer
consumers improved energy efficiency, comfort and potential cost
savings.
On average, weather drives approximately 50 percent of a home’s
energy costs. By pairing the Honeywell Total Connect Comfort Wi-Fi
thermostats to the WeatherBug Home Connect feature in the WeatherBug
app, Honeywell customers can access personalized insights that show
how hard their home’s HVAC system is working to keep them
comfortable given the weather. WeatherBug Home’s thermostat
temperature analytics estimate daily and monthly HVAC costs, as well
as energy use, by thermodynamically modeling energy used against
current and forecasted weather – and providing the only outdoor and
indoor weather analysis on home energy usage.
“The connected home is all about delivering homeowners peace of
mind—including energy savings,” said Jeremy Eaton, President,
Honeywell Connected Home. “For homeowners– our joint initiative with
WeatherBug Home reflects a unique opportunity for Honeywell
customers to gain insight into their energy use and improve their
energy efficiency while maintaining comfort.”

WeatherBug Home and
Honeywell are also engaging in automated thermostat optimization
programs with utilities across the country, offering utilities
superior energy efficiency and peak load reduction solutions.
This is possible by leveraging WeatherBug Home’s thermodynamic
approach which can deliver additional HVAC savings of 8% on top
of the Honeywell thermostat through weather optimization of
customers’ schedules, personalized home energy efficiency
ScoreCards, and intelligent demand response that reduces peak
loads while keeping homeowners comfortable through adaptive
pre-cooling and precise controls. The collaboration is enhancing
utility reliability and engagement while keeping Honeywell
customers comfortable and potentially helping save them more
energy and money.
“By offering Honeywell connected thermostat customers immediate
insight into how the current weather is impacting their energy
usage, costs and carbon footprint, Earth Networks’ WeatherBug
Home app extends beyond the confines of the smart home to
empower a smarter consumer,” said Bob Marshall, chief executive
officer, Earth Networks. “At the same time, working with
utilities on their thermostat optimization programs can help
bring even more cost savings and comfort to consumers.”
To get these real-time weather-energy analytics, Honeywell
customers must download the WeatherBug app.
